Welcome, 2018! New Classes, Events, and Musings

Brad Paisley recently tweeted that New Year’s Day is “… the first blank page of a 365 page book.  Write a good one.”  We are often faced with so many options in our daily lives, so many good options, that we get distracted from what would be best.  We then get to the end of a year and breathe a sigh of relief. How do we purposefully write the book for 2018?

As for me, I am diligently working to complete some designs I started at Deb Newton’s design class this past fall.  I’m also knitting like a fiend preparing for a new slate of classes of which I’m really excited.  The skills scarf is finally a reality!  The Crazy Stripe Tee is on the class schedule as are mittens and a brand new swatch class.  So many of my students have spent the first class of a new project being taught about swatching: what it is, why it’s important, how to do it, and why swatches may or may not be accurate.  Instead of taking so much time teaching this each new class, I decided to separate it and teach it before the other classes start so that everyone can come to their first project class of the year with their homework complete.  (Ahem!  Homework? Before class starts?)  I know some have been disheartened when they come to a sweater class then realize that their yarn and needles aren’t going to give them the sweater of which they had hoped.  This swatch class should prevent that sinking feeling of not only will the yarn and needle combination not work but now you are also behind the class.

I will say that one of the best parts of my job is that I get to enter into people’s lives and help them attain their goals.  Sometimes I fix a project and sometimes I help someone who has always wanted to knit but never spent the time learning. My life is all the richer for the time I spend doing what I love doing with people who are doing what they love doing.

Take a look at the class offerings and see if anything works for you.  If you want a class that you don’t see or have a question about a class you do see, shoot me an email at nancy@rogueknitting.com and let me know.

Please note that the Friday morning and Friday evening knit and crochet gatherings have a registration link.  Unfortunately, there is a glitch in the system that shows an error when registering.  Should you encounter this glitch, just message me or email me at nancy@rogueknitting.com and let me know you would like to attend.  We’re working to fix the issue!

I look forward to seeing you in 2018!

CLASSES

Skills Scarf   This class has long been a dream of mine.  I’ve taught a skills class for several years and am thrilled to offer this class that has more skills, fewer classes, and zero sewing.  If you have always wanted to learn how to take your knitting to the next level, then this class is perfect for you. Please note that there are two offerings of this class.  One is a daytime Friday class while the other is a Saturday morning.  To register, go to:

https://rogueknitting.net/events/

Swatch Class:  What is gauge? Why is it important? What do you do if your gauge is not what the pattern recommends? How do you swatch? Swatches:  To block or not to block?  I highly recommend this class if you are taking any garment classes or if you would like to knit anything where the gauge is important. https://rogueknitting.net/events/swatch/

Mittens!  In this crazy cold weather, who doesn’t want mittens?  This is a great pattern.  However, should you NOT want to stripe the mittens you don’t have to do so!  You can either choose the mitten kit or choose 1-21 different colors of a worsted weight yarn.  We want to knit mittens, not stress over the yarn or colors.  Check out the class at https://rogueknitting.net/events/21-color-mitten/

Crazy Stripe Tee:  We have been talking about this sweater for ages.  It’s finally time!  Knit the sweater from the top down, in on piece, with no seams.  In this class, I’ll teach you how to change colors without holes developing, knit short rows, pick up stitches, how to use waste yarn instead of stitch holders, and increases such as M1L and M1R.  Please note:  Some women have expressed concern about the stripes in this sweater.  One of the fantastic aspects of this sweater is that the stripes are diagonal in all the right places.  As a result, it tends to slim and minimize larger busts rather than accentuating them.  I’ve seen this sweater on several different body types and it’s always eye-catching for all the right reasons.  For more information, click on over to https://rogueknitting.net/events/crazy-stripes-tee-2/
